GDPR and cloud backup
Data Protection Directive
The European Union (EU) has a European directive 2016/679 restricting the use of a cloud backup in certain circumstances, the General Data Protection Directive. The GDPR defines some basic requirements on the protection of personal data of European citizens.
In practice the GDPR prohibits many organisation to send any personal data to countries outside the European Union.
In which country?
Many organizations and companies have therefore waited to see which way the wind blows in terms of cloud backups because they have no control over where their data streams to.
Servers within EU borders
At Pro Backup any backup data is stored on servers located in The Netherlands, within the borders of the European Union, which allows Pro Backup users to meet the GDPR.
